WHO WE ARE
Voted the best diving from a resort world wide, Walindi Plantation Resort is renowned for superlative diving. Located on the island of New Britain, Papua New Guinea, at the heart of the Coral Triangle, Walindi dive sites boast an unrivalled array of marine biodiversity. Accommodation consists of traditionally built bures nestling in tropical grounds, each looking out across the turquoise waters of Kimbe Bay, radiating out from the extended plantation house, redolent of the romance of bygone eras.

WHAT'S SPECIAL ABOUT US?
Boasting a guest book that reads like who's who in underwater photography, Walindi offers superb wide-angle photography, with dramatic seascapes and lush coral gardens. For the macro photographer, small critters abound in every crevice.

WHAT TO EXPECT

A multitude of dive sites are easily reached in under an hour in one of three specially designed day boats. Your normal days' diving departs Walindi Jetty at 8 am, for either a two or three dive day.

Lunch is served either aboard the dive boat, or else at one of the deserted islands that fringe the bay, alternatively for those seeking a shorter days diving, lunch is served back at the resort. Your gear is prepared for you, and is dismantled, washed and stored by the dive crew at the end of the day. Camera rinse tubs are provided on the boats for all photographers.

All dive sites have environmental moorings, and the boats have dive platforms for ease of entry and exit.

Special attractions
The geological formation of the bay creates a sheltered paradise, allowing dense coral profusions at unprecedented shallow depths. Huge gorgonian fans and stunning sea whips are host to a plethora of critters, whilst flamboyantly coloured soft corals and sponges are dramatically hued against the never-ending blue. The coral formations at Walindi, are simply magnificent, and create a spectacular backdrop to the marine biodiversity of in excess of 900 species of fish. The big attraction remains the visit of orcas, normally associated with cold water and ice floes, the orca also inhabit the seas around New Britain, coming into the bay at times throughout the year. Encounters with these majestic creatures is the stuff that dreams are made of, with specially designed boom nets that allow divers and photographers to hang just above them surfing in the bow waves of the boats.

Land tours are available to explore the surrounding region: Our most popular trip is a visit to the unique Hot River, the source of which lies in the volcanoes that surround Walindi. Volcanically heated, and brimming with minerals, the Hot River has been revered for its mystical healing powers through out the ages, wending through verdant rainforests, the hot river collects in a limpid pool perfect for bathing and relaxing. The temperature is a warm 40 degrees Celsius and is perfect for unwinding the day before you fly.

Elsewhere you have the opportunity to explore the rainforest and bird life of New Britain, with trips into the rainforest at Nicks Place. Located just behind Walindi, with breathtaking views across the bay, it is a magical experience to watch the dusk slowly falling as the brilliantly hued parrots and blue eyed cockatoos wheel and call in the trees towering over your head. Huge fruit bats and hornbills swoop above the trees, while fireflies create a dazzling pyrotechnic display.

Relics of the past wait to be explored, with plane wrecks from WWII highlighting Papua New Guineas role as a theatre of war. Enveloped by the jungle, these wrecks make for a fascinating afternoons exploration.
