I am preparing for the Indo Pacific Fish Conference, which is taking place in Fremantle, Western Australia from the 31st May to 5th June. This is one of the big events for fish biologists around the world and only takes place once every four years.

Personally, I am looking forward to the presentation by Gerry Allen who will be talking about the biogeography of Cenderawasih Bay, western New Guinea (Papua, Indonesia). A friend of mine, Graham Abbott from Diving 4 Images was involved with this trip, so I’ll enjoy seeing what they were up to!

I am also pleased to be presenting at the conference about my research into the biology of the pygmy seahorses Hippocampus bargibanti and H. denise. This will be based upon work I have been doing at Wakatobi Dive Resort over the last couple of years.

It’s the first study into pygmy seahorse numbers, the sort of habitats they prefer, and also group dynamics. If you happen to be attending the event, please feel free to come and have a chat!
