For the first time ever, an adult male colossal squid (Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni) has been captured intact, weighing in at about 450 kg. Colossal squid are larger and heavier than their more famous relative, the giant squid (Architeuthis dux), and very little is known about these enigmatic creatures of the deep. Read more here.
