A Trio of Rebreather Records
In the past few months, a team of experienced closed-circuit rebreather divers have explored the Sra Keow cave in Krabi, Thailand.
Cedric Verdier, a Technical Diving Instructor Trainer with over 16 years of experience, dove to an amazing 201 metres/ 663 feet using only a standard ISC Megalodon closed-circuit rebreather (CCR) with an axial scrubber and no major modification. Cedric’s dive is the deepest dive ever done with a Megalodon, and also the deepest cave dive/ rebreather dive ever done in Asia!
In addition, Dr. Mike Gadd from Singapore (who is a regular contributor to the FiNS Magazine online Forum) reached a depth of 191 metres/ 626 feet with a Delta-P Ouroboros CCR with no modification. Here again, Mike’s dive is the deepest ever done with this rebreather unit.
During a previous expedition, Bruce Konefe used an AP Diving Evolution CCR to explore the same cave down to 120 metres/ 393 feet, which is quite a challenge given the small scrubber on this unit.
A full trip report is now available on the Cave Expeditions page of Cedric’s website.
The same team will visit the Philippines in July to unravel the mysteries of the sunken WWII Japanese battleships Yamashiro and Fuso at 200 metres/ 660feet.
