Anatomy of a Shark/ Whale Dive

SpeakersPartipicants at Canon Digital Duo seminar on 20 April were treated to fantastic images, videos and stories from Eric Cheng and Tony Wu — two of the world’s most prominent Asian marine photographers.

Well known for their breaching (leaping out of the water), humpback whales make spectacular photo subjects, and Tony certainly had some incredible photos of these majestic creatures. Tony also shared some of his work from his recent trip to the Komodo Islands. Pristine reefs, rich marine life and even some real dragons…enough to make you want to hop on a liveaboard to Komodo as well!

SeminarEric had exciting photos and videos to show from his travels with the most (in)famous predators of the deep. Besides bull sharks at Walker’s Cay, Bahamas and whale sharks in the Galapagos, Eric also shared photos from his trip to Isla Guadalupe, Mexico, where he got up close to some great whites. And if there’s one thing Eric has to say about shark photography, bigger really is better when it comes to cameras — especially when the camera is all that’s between you and the shark!

On a sobering note, Tony and Eric also drew attention to the plight of these beautiful animals and the threats they face from unsustainable hunting. So the next time you tuck into a bowl of sharkfin soup, think about the masterpiece of nature you’re destroying!
